We managed to land a few coral trout before the weather started getting a little nasty this morning. Size varies from 1kg ~ 1.5kg.

Deep Drop Fishing for Red Snapper- Japan

Ever wonder what lives at the bottom of the ocean in 900ft of water? Take a look. These "tai" were caught with just a couple of drops down to the deeps of 298meters. We had a unique setup containing 12 hooks per rig with a wire twine main line to help protect against the predatory fish (sharks, ribbon fish).

20+kg of gurukun were caught yesterday on an inshore fishing charter. This fish is a major staple of the Okinawan diet and is seen in most izakaya restaurants.

4.5kg and 6.5kg Longface Emporer, Fishing Okinawa

Pic speaks for itself. Two large fish in a cooler box. This species is of fish is called umunaga by the Okinawan's or longface emporer in English. The larger of the two Emporer's is 85 centimeters.

Deep Shot Fishing- Okinawa

A look into the captain's kitchen. What a way to start off a meal with a handful of yellow back sea bream or "red snapper." These fish are excellent for a butter and garlic sautee or sashimi. We set off on today charter with 1 ride along customer; he netted 18 tai, 4 sharks and 1 goat fish.

Another day of Deep Drop Fishing in Okinawa...

Today's 1/2 day charter netted a total of 57 fish between 2 anglers. Lots of sashimi and butter yaki fish for momasan to clean and cook. Tai and superb sashimi fish to eat if you ever get the chance to give them a try. I recommend removing the skin and go right in for the meat.

Deep Drop Fishing Okinawa - Sea Bream or Red Snapper

1/2 day Deep Drop Fishing Charter: 28 tai and 8 muru aji @ 347 meters. This angler was using the "Tanacom Bull" Electric reel by Daiwa, which is capable of handling 800 meters of PE # 8 line or 100lbs test; with a standard "queen snapper" rig layout with your choice of 5~10 hooks, a 400 gram weight and deep water light. Not bad for an afternoon filled with fishing and fun! Deep Drop fishing in Onna is considered an inshore charter due to the short distance to the fishing point. Convenient for the busy body who does not have all day to spend on a "payao" saltwater fishing charter. Due to the depth of the fishing each charter of this type max capacity is 4 anglers.

Bull Mahi on the run! Fishing Okinawa

This Mahi Mahi is on the run with a lure in his mouth. Little does he know that the Capt has other plans for his afternoon. After 10 mins of fighting this baby on lite tackle (# 10 line) the angler landed him with success. This afternoon we jigged with poppers and weighted lures 40g ~ 100g.

Saltwater Fishing Trip - Onna local Payao

One angler's cooler box pic from a 1/2 day payao charter in Onna this past weekend. He netted 9 tuna, 2 katsuo and 2 mahi mahi. Not a bad day's catch for 4 hours of fishing. The fish were biting with lures predominantly, but we managed get a couple of swings by the payao while trolling and hooked into a 8kg tuna. Wow!

What Happend? - The winds from the North!

OK. One day we have three or four typhoons in the area and the next we have none. Looks like the strong winds from the north hosed our typhoons. Fishing should be possible this weekend. Here to seeing you on the ocean; saltwater fishing.

The weather has been acting a little funny lately. Raining here and there...It appears that we have several small typhoons that have formed below Okinawa and reeking havoc on our fishing weather.
